The Spanish-American War Excerpts
1. "Remember the Maine"

This was written to remember the USS Maine that was sunk by the Spanish. The argument is that the remembrance of the USS Maine and her gallant crew, is a duty with Americans, and may be made productive of good to mankind. The men of the Maine representing the free peoples of the world, died at the post of their duty, which in their case happened to be within the gates of a supposedly friendly power, which power upon its side, represents in governmental sense, the antithesis of all that abounds in the United States.
